Is UC okay? I heard that UC's finances are going to worsen. I was surprised to hear that they're not hiring new professors and that some might even be laid off. Funding for student support is also decreasing significantly. At first, I thought it was just a rumor, but now that it's even on the local news, I'm worried it might be really serious. Is it going to be alright?

The sentiment expressed is one of bitterness and cynicism, directed at those perceived as having privilege and hindering the progress of others. Here's a translation, attempting to capture the nuances:

"So, if you're poor, just cower and shrink, is that it? I bet those expats who were so resentful about paying for school are secretly laughing. Their envy is world-class. We'll just have to see how well those Trump supporters are doing, how successful they are. They uselessly invoke Christian morality, harping on homosexuality, transgender people, and drugs – all to distract from what truly matters. They're cutting the ladder so they can perpetually maintain their power and privilege for generations to come."

Does this make it more advantageous for students who don't receive financial aid and pay full tuition?

That's probably the case. Even if they select financially needy students as usual, if the actual financial aid awarded is less than in previous years, many will likely forgo enrollment. That would mean a higher commit rate from financially stable students on the waitlist.

It's Trump, not Newsom. This is a federal cut, so Newsom is irrelevant. Trump is pushing for the abolition of the Department of Education, along with the elimination of federal funding. He's cutting budgets across the board – civil servants, education, welfare – to give massive tax cuts to the wealthy.

He's solidifying the pillars of the upper class while dismantling the ladders that allow the lower and middle classes to climb.

Some among the lower and middle classes are protesting Trump's elimination of these ladders, while others, also from the lower and middle classes, are supporting Trump and attacking those who oppose him.

Here's the email from UCSD:

The email is from UC San Diego (UCSD) and informs the campus community about significant proposed cuts to NIH funding for biomedical research. The cuts, totaling over $150 million annually for UCSD, threaten lab infrastructure and research capabilities. The email emphasizes that the impact will extend beyond the biomedical field, affecting all departments.

The email encourages recipients to participate in advocacy efforts by contacting their federal legislators through a provided link. It also announces a day of action on February 20th, with a pop-up advocacy event on Library Walk where community members can share their concerns and connect with government relations staff to voice their opposition to the funding cuts.

Sonoma State University eliminated its entire athletics department due to budget issues. All sports programs have been cut.

I'm deeply worried that he's trying to force his way into every field using the same sleazy sales tactics he learned in his real estate days. He's purging all the pillars that supported a strong America, calling them useless money pits...

I heard an interview on NPR. It was with a dance or performing arts student whose program was eliminated and the full-time instructor laid off as part of government budget cuts. It happened just two days after the transfer application deadline, and the student was saying how unfair it was that they couldn't even get any consideration for that. Ugh, listening to it really hit close to home.

If the federal government cuts funding to universities, the UC system will naturally be affected. Republican-led states are already in an uproar about this, and there were recent local news reports indicating serious financial problems at the CSU system as well.

"UC, CSU face cuts under Newsom’s proposed budget".... This was the headline of an article published on January 10th of this year.

They're slashing all sorts of budgets, saying they'll cut taxes for profitable companies.
