When placing a buy order with a slightly lower limit price, is the best time to buy right at the market open between 9:30 and 10:00 AM, earlier during pre-market, or an hour or two after the market opens? I have so little experience that it was a real rollercoaster ride last time.

I've often seen that when the Nasdaq index drops by 2% or more in a day, it hits its lowest point of the day within 30 minutes of the market close.

Set limit buy orders for a few shares at a time across target prices. If it looks like it's going to fall further, you can cancel them and lower your prices more, but if the bottom was $105, it would be better to buy a few shares starting from a slightly higher price than that or focus on the price levels. Trying to time the right moment to buy cheap seems even harder than hitting the right price point.
