Can someone who knows a lot about wash sales please take a look? I want to cut losses on part of my Micron shares.

I asked Gemini, and it said that doing a partial sale today won't trigger a wash sale... Can Gemini be wrong too?
I started buying Micron on June 26th, and bought more on June 29th and July 1st.
The last time I bought was July 1st, and today is August 11th, so Gemini says it's fine as long as I sell today and don't buy Micron again within the next 30 days.

As far as I know, since all the purchase dates fall within a month of each other, I thought it would trigger a wash sale.
I bought in at such a high point that I am currently down nearly $30,000.
If I could sell about half, I'd like to just cut my losses on half and hold onto the rest, but I haven't been able to sell because of the wash sale rule.
Taking a full $30,000 loss is too overwhelming to even consider.
I just want to realize a loss on about half of it, around $15,000—is this possible?
Could someone who knows a lot about wash sales please advise me?

OP, what you originally knew is correct. It is not that you won't trigger it as long as you don't buy within a month after selling at a loss; all shares bought within a month prior to the purchase date of the stock sold at a loss are also subject to it. In other words, if you sell everything at a loss and do not buy again within a month, you are fine, but if you have remaining shares, you need to consider them.

Can't you just choose and sell them by the date they were bought?

Right? What I know is correct, right? If anyone here has tried selling with a partial stop-loss, I'd appreciate it if you could leave a reply. Sigh ㅠㅠㅠ Seriously, if I just leave it, my losses keep getting bigger... Fortunately, it went up $7 per share today. I have 110 shares, and I really don't know what I should do...

It's turning positive and rising right now... I think it would have been better if OP had waited a bit before selling.

This is a time to buy or rebuy at the dip, not to cut losses. Regardless of the money, if you're experiencing this much stress, you won't be able to hold semiconductor stocks long-term. Look at how MSFT and PLTR jump overnight. MU will hit $1200 in no time.

Honestly, I'm also heavily invested in memory, but I'm just waiting and watching for now. I want to tell you not to sell right now, but... it's frustrating that I can't say it.

I cut my losses and got out of MU a long time ago when it was crawling at the bottom for ages and barely hit $1,000... sigh... still ㅠ.ㅠ

If I had known earlier, I regret it so much that I didn't sell some a few days ago. ㅠㅠ It even broke 850 today, so it's so upsetting to sell now. I should wait a few days and sell about half when it rebounds a bit. Buy back within a month? I don't even want to look at Micron ever again. I'm never buying it again.

If you're not going to buy it again, it shouldn't matter even within a month, right? It's just cutting your losses. You just shouldn't buy it back.

Even if it drops further and you buy again, it's just that the loss from the previous sale won't be processed as a loss, but it won't affect your trading.

It seems like you only need to be careful with the wash sale rule when you want to get a tax benefit because the loss is large; other than that, you don't really need to worry about it and can just sell and buy whenever you think it's optimal. The apparent average cost is just a number, and the actual profit or loss is the same.

As Gemini said, I understand that you just need to sell and not repurchase within a month.

It's okay.
You just need to sell today and not buy within a month.
