Is long-term investing the answer for SNDK and MU? 😭

I bought SanDisk at 2,000 and Micron at1,150 T_T It plummeted right after I bought them... and it's a large amount of money. The loss is too massive to sell them off, so I think I'll just have to clear my mind and hold onto them for a few years. Fortunately, it's not money I need right away, but I'm under so much stress. Sigh. If I just forget about it and move on with my life, I'll probably get my principal back eventually.

While employees will see their income increase through high bonuses and RSUs thanks to the two companies' strong performance, investing <from now on> seems to require a very cautious approach.

The revenue and profit of the two companies are massive, but that doesn't mean it will continuously be reflected in stock price increases. Also, the companies' growth over the past year might have already been fully priced in.

Rather, a lot of bad news has emerged since last July, and more could follow.

Slowing future revenue growth rate/profit margin and high Wall Street expectations (though the overall numbers will likely be high, of course)
Possibility of investment cuts due to capital surplus turning negative among M7 companies (this quarter's earnings passed over it, but it remains concerning)
Increasing market share of CXMT (DRAM) and YMTC (NAND flash) (even if they produce memory that is one or two generations behind, the ripple effect is growing increasingly larger)
Possibility of an increase in production volume starting around the second half of next year

Susquehanna analysts have boosted their Micron stock target to $2,000, a big increase from the current $820. The average estimate among analysts is $1,268, up by 54% from the current level.

All analysts tracking SanDisk have a buy rating, with Susquehanna having a target of $3,050, much higher than the current $1,278. Wells Fargo targets $1,620, while Evercore seeing it rising to $3,100.

Both are companies with good prospects.
It might be better to average down while the price is low right now to lower your average cost...

If a rebound to $1,600 comes, it could even go to 2,000. The problem is that semiconductor investor sentiment needs to recover right now, but for that to happen, it seems like it needs to break through 1,600 first..

I bought MU in the $800–$900 range, so whenever there was a slight fluctuation recently, I sold everything off and switched to ETFs. I was getting too stressed watching it all this time. You bought it pretty high, OP. If you're not in a hurry, just wait it out.

What do you mean "long hit"? This isn't baseball. If you're stuck, you can just do forced long-term holding. It'll go up eventually.

I first bought MU in the $146 range (2024). And it kept dropping after that, so the last time I bought was at $65 (2025). It wasn't that I averaged down because I had any real hope; I live on a weekly wage, retirement is still far off... so it was a stock I just held onto thinking I should at least lower my average price, but as time passed like this, I have more than recovered my principal. Don't be impatient, just wait it out.

It seems like it will take some time to reach a $2,000 average price for Sandy; it's probably better for your peace of mind to look to next year.

However, if you think about it carefully, long-term investing applies more to things like indexes, ETFs, and mutual funds, and it is actually better to view individual stocks like gambling, focusing on the short or medium term.
For example, if you put $100,000 into a stock priced at $100, and it drops to $50, turning into $50,000—causing you to go through hellish days agonizing over whether you should sell—will you be able to hold on when it recovers back to $100 or goes up a little more?
On the other hand, someone who bought $100,000 worth at $50 doubles their money when it reaches $100, and by holding onto it longer expecting a further rise, it hits $150 and becomes $300,000. Even though this is a very ideal/lucky situation, that is just how individual stocks are.

It seems like you'll have to wait quite a while this time. Also, if news about memory-related development comes out from China, it might even be hopeless.
